Words that Work Week 167

For this week’s words, we are referencing the author of Aisha’s Addicted to Investing book (Total Money Makeover), Dave Ramsey and his thoughts on home ownership.

Right now is the best time to buy a house……….

• if you are planning on holding on to it, long-term
• if you view it as an asset, not a liability
• if you buy it right
• If it has good bones
• If you buy the worst house in the best neighborhood
• if you are buying a starter home in a value market
• if potential rent is in excess of your mortgage

There are a million reasons why home ownership ( as a residence or investment) makes sense. Is there an “If,” that resonates with you?

As I turn over to Auben the keys to first new car I  ever owned  (a 2015 Jeep Cherokee, purchased at age 38), I was thinking about all of the things I could have bought over the years, all of the liabilities I could have purchased instead of investing in homes (assets). On the drive from Charleston to Augusta, I reflected on how grateful I am to have received the wisdom and guidance I have been given over the years about prioritizing delayed gratification.  

Not sure my wife always appreciated the fact that you had to roll down the window of my car to open the door but I think we all appreciate the benefits her Mazda Protégé has given our family today.
