Words that Work Cover 77

From humble beginnings to monumental growth

Auben’s new Business Development Director, Alli Malliton, asked me yesterday in Kansas City where the name Auben came from. I told Alli that “Schuetze Realty” did not exactly roll off the tongue. Try it!

What I failed to tell Alli was I knew from day one in 2009 that I wanted Auben to be bigger than me. Admittedly, I am not sure I initially knew why I wanted a big operation, other than that seemed to be what you did with a business.

Back in those early days in Augusta, GA borrowing cash from friends to make payroll, I never lacked the confidence and conviction that  we were going to do something big and special. The word that I would come to understand that drives all of my actions inside and outside Auben is: Impactful.

My original staff, composed primarily of friends and family, was incredibly dedicated and loyal and wanted to believe the vision. However, no matter how much KoolAid they were drinking, they were right to question my 2009 goal of buying an international investment property, which sat alongside the much more pragmatic goal of painting the 100k office we were occupying which we had filled with random furniture found from houses we flipped.

As an entrepreneur you have to have more than a small amount of distance from reality!

So, from these humble beginnings, it was a monumental day for Auben yesterday to host our first quarterly meeting in our Kansas City Market. Our Kansas City office is staffed with a full team of loyal and dedicated people who want to make Auben their own. We also celebrated 15 years of looking far down the road for our team of people and all of the residents and investor clients.

Looking ahead, we are thrilled about the incredible opportunities unfolding in the Kansas City market. One of this week’s articles looks at the rising costs of natural disasters and how they are affecting various markets. Interestingly, Kansas City stands out as a place that is relatively resilient to climate risks, making it an appealing option for those looking to avoid increasing insurance costs, property devaluation and population change, positioning this market favorably for future growth and stability for both residents and investors.

We look forward to continuing to share in the journey with all of you and many thanks to everyone who has and is making it happen.
