Mark Twain, voice of the sane
Are you searching for direction in the confusing SFR landscape?
On a recent business trip to the Midwest, Auben Director of Operations, Alex Becker, and I discussed the value of what he termed “zigging while others are zagging” or being contrarian and going against the grain.
It’s an interesting topic for two experienced SFR professionals to currently have. After spending the early part of our SFR careers watching so many real estate professionals overlook the potential of intentional SFR investing, we have witnessed an awakening to the viability of the asset class and its management.
While extremely thankful for the attention and innovation to our growing industry, we haven’t always understood the approach of the newcomers.
Against the backdrop of a no-mistake market cycle, we’ve seen investors and operators push away the people closest to the activity in the name of consolidation and tech.
Far from being technophobes, we just didn’t understand how removing local experts made sense.
As we sought to embrace more tech, we ended up finding ourselves more intently embracing the philosophy of one of literature’s greatest contrarians, Mark Twain, who said
“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”
Heeding both of Twain’s directives, we just could not envision this business without the people.
So as we seek to open Charlotte, Greenville/Spartanburg, Charleston and Atlanta, look to meet some new faces who will be the face of our brand in our new markets!
