Do Good Day 2025
This September 19, we’re taking a pause from our regular discussions about the residential rental investment industry to honor something deeply personal to us: Do Good Day.
This bi-annual day of service was created to honor the life of Laura Schuetze, the sister of Auben’s founder, Tyson. Laura was a remarkable soul who dedicated her life to helping others through social work. Her greatest joy came from doing good and advocating for those who needed it most.
Tragically, Laura passed away on April 19, 2019. Two years later, on the anniversary of her passing, the first Do Good Day was held in her honor. Since then, every year on that date—and on her birthday—we close our doors, give our team a paid day off, and step out into our communities to do good in her name.
Laura’s Light Lives On
This year, we’re especially honored to share this video tribute, where Tyson and his family open up about the loss of Laura and why Do Good Day means so much to them. Their reflections are a powerful reminder that even in the face of grief, we can find purpose in carrying forward her legacy of compassion, kindness, and service.
As Tyson shared in his essay, A Little More Humanity:
“Laura was truly one of the most considerate, compassionate, and righteous humans I have ever met. … She had underdog DNA coursing through her veins with an unparalleled intensity. … After she committed suicide, I could not reconcile that her love and care were gone from the world. So, we started Do Good Day in the hopes of doing small activities which with time and consistency can hopefully have a big impact in her honor.”
Carrying Forward Her Legacy
At Auben, we are grateful to work at a company that values our shared humanity, prioritizes mental health, and creates space for service. Whether through random acts of kindness, organized volunteer activities, or simply reaching out to someone in need, we can all play a part in carrying Laura’s legacy forward.
On September 19, we invite you—our colleagues, investors, residents, and friends—to join us in doing good.
Take a few moments to watch the video tribute, hear directly from Tyson and his family about Laura’s life and impact, and let their words inspire you. Then, go out and do something—big or small—that brings a little more humanity into the world.
